No collar is my preference—-they already know you aren’t wearing prison clothes—I think they are more inclined to open up to someone who isn’t “fancier than they”. Isn’t the group setting somewhat based on “meeting them where they are” ….IMO

But I wanna be fancier then they. 🤣

Actually, because I am not ordained, it's off limits. I found out it was only for clergy after I posted this.

Commander IIIs & IVs and lots of other staff are in civilian clothes. So I get approached pretty often by new inmates assuming I am a Commander or above.

I settled on a ID lanyard that says chaplain in large letters.

I also considered walking around with a really sanctimonious look on my face, making an exaggerated sign of the cross every few steps...(just kidding. )😜

“Finally, wearing black has a priestly function. Johnny carries away some of the world’s darkness by wearing it.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There are times I need an individual, and times I need a person who is “just” their role. I believe your wearing of the clerical collar will put people at ease and nonverbally communicate why you are there. For example, I wouldn’t tell Bert at the backyard BBQ about my bronchitis, but throw a white coat on Walter and I’ll go off about my whooping cough.
